Tamil Nadu Politics: Joseph Vijay’s sharp attack on Stalin government, DMK is distributing the looted money to the rabble.
News India Live, Digital Desk: With the sound of the alarm for Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2026, there has been an earthquake in the politics of the state. Actor C. Joseph Vijay, popularly known as ‘Thalapathy’ and president of ‘Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam’ (TVK) has criticized the ruling DMK and Chief Minister M.K. A front has been opened against Stalin. Vijay has alleged that the Stalin government is using the public’s hard-earned money and ‘looted money’ through corruption to distribute gifts and cash to win the elections. He has termed this politics as ‘cheating’ on the public. ‘Not gifts, but rights’: Vijay’s stinging attack. Addressing election meetings in Chennai and Trichy, Vijay directly targeted the recent welfare schemes of the Stalin government (like Rs 5000 assistance to women). He said, “When there is a fear of defeat, then the government suddenly remembers the public. This is the public money which was looted through corruption and now it is being returned as a ‘gift’.” Vijay appealed to the voters to end the tradition of ‘voting with money’ and choose an honest option in the state. Vijay will contest from two seats, ‘Great War’ against Stalin. Vijay, who is playing his first electoral innings in Tamil Nadu politics, made a big announcement on Sunday (29 March) saying that he will contest from two assembly seats, Perambur (Chennai) and Trichy East. He has also released the list of all 234 candidates of his party. Vijay has described the upcoming elections as a direct fight between the ‘Alliance of the People (TVK)’ and the ‘Alliance of Corruption (DMK-Bloc)’. He promised that if his government comes to power, interest-free loans up to Rs 20 lakh will be provided to the youth and drug-free Tamil Nadu will be ensured. Stalin’s counterattack: ‘Opposition’s panic’ Responding to Vijay’s attacks, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and DMK leaders have termed it an ‘election stunt’. DMK says that its government has always worked in the public interest and new political players like Vijay are making baseless allegations just to remain in the headlines. Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin also sarcastically said that the public watches the work, not the film dialogues. Voting will be held on April 23, will the equations change? All 234 seats in Tamil Nadu will go to polls on 23 April 2026 and the results will be declared on 4 May. Vijay’s entry has turned the state’s traditional bipolar (DMK vs AIADMK) contest into a triangular one. Vijay’s popularity, especially among youth and ‘Gen Z’ voters, is posing a tough challenge to Stalin’s ‘Dravidian model’.
