It is necessary to protect stray animals, especially stray cows, in the capital: CM Rekha Gupta
New Delhi: Delhi Government has taken an important initiative to ensure care of destitute cattle. Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta presented lease extension agreement certificates to cow shelters at Mukhyamantri Jan Seva Sadan on Monday, showing the government’s commitment towards the conservation and promotion of cows. On this occasion, financial assistance was also given for setting up modern biogas infrastructure in cow shelters.
The Chief Minister gave orders related to fodder payment and license renewal to the representatives of four cow shelters under the Animal Husbandry Unit of Delhi Government. These cow shelters take care of destitute cattle brought by the local bodies.
The Delhi government has released approximately Rs 20.26 crore under this initiative, which includes Rs 7.64 crore for payment of dues and Rs 12.62 crore for fodder expenses. Along with this, the long pending licenses and lease agreements of the four Gaushalas have also been renewed. The objective of this initiative is to promote clean energy production from cow dung and strengthen environmental protection.
The Chief Minister said that the Delhi Government is committed to the care of destitute cattle and has focused on the development of 10 modern cow shelters in the first phase. The government aims to soon equip 40 cowsheds with all necessary facilities.
He also said that gaushalas should not be seen as mere animal shelters, but as centers of service and compassion. Preservation of stray animals is essential, and gaushalas are providing shelter, medical attention and nutrition to these silent creatures.
The Chief Minister also said that proper management of cow shelters is possible not only with the government budget but only with the cooperation of the society. The government aims to equip Delhi’s cow shelters with state-of-the-art facilities and better veterinary services. This initiative is not limited to financial assistance only, but it is a message that the Delhi government is conscious of animal rights.
The Gaushala representatives present at the program expressed gratitude for the financial assistance provided by the Delhi Government and reiterated their commitment towards the conservation of cow progeny.
