Two Naxalites surrender with AK-47 in Kanker, Chhattisgarh
Kanker. In Kanker district of Chhattisgarh today, on the fixed deadline of Tuesday 31st March, two Naxalites PPCM Shankar and PM Hidma Dodi have surrendered before the police with AK-47. Kanker SP confirmed that a reward of Rs 8 lakh was announced on both the surrendered Naxalites.
Kanker SP Nikhil Rakhecha said on Tuesday that about 15 Naxalites are still said to be active in the forests of Kanker-Dantewada area, out of which two key cadres Chander and Rupi are at the center of the search operation of the security forces. Police believe that the remaining Naxalites may return to the mainstream in the coming hours.
Rakhecha told that in the last 5 days, 9 Naxalite cadres had decided to leave the path of violence and join the mainstream. In the same sequence, on March 31, two more Naxalite cadres have also decided to leave the path of violence and join the mainstream.
One AK 47 has been surrendered by these Naxalite cadres. On the basis of information received from Maoist cadres who have come forward for rehabilitation, efforts are underway to establish contact with other Maoist cadres active in the area and include them in the mainstream.
Bastar IG Sundarraj Pattalingam welcomed the decision of a total of 11 Maoist cadres in the last three days from March 25 to today March 31.
He said, ‘Now only a few hours are left for the Maoist cadres to choose the option of surrender and rehabilitation. They should use this opportunity judiciously and lead a peaceful and respectable life. After the rehabilitation process is completed, they will be reintegrated into the society.
