The biggest problem of EV will end, companies will make similar chargers
Desk: A big initiative has been taken to promote electric vehicles in India. Light Electric-Vehicle Acceleration Forum i.e. LEAF was officially launched from March 30. This is a platform in which auto companies, charging infrastructure operators and technology companies will work together. This initiative was inaugurated by HD Kumaraswamy, Minister of Heavy Industries, Government of India. The main objective of LEAF is to strengthen the electric two-wheeler and three-wheeler segments in India and make the charging system uniform.
The biggest focus of LEAF is that charging stations of different companies can work with each other. Nowadays, many times it happens that chargers of different companies do not match with each other, due to which users face problems. To overcome this problem, LEAF will work on creating a unified system. In this, LECCS (Light Electric Combined Charging System) will be promoted, which has been approved by the Bureau of Indian Standards. It is based on ‘Type-7’ connector, which supports both slow and fast charging. This will allow users to move easily between different charging networks and they will not need to find a new charger every time.
This forum has been started by big companies of the country together. This mainly includes Hero MotoCorp, Ather Energy and IPEC India. These companies will together take this initiative forward and work on improving the charging infrastructure. During the launch, more than 20 companies related to the EV sector joined this initiative and more companies are expected to join in the coming time.
Experts believe that the use of electric vehicles in India is increasing rapidly and has reached a critical juncture. But the concern of charging still remains a big problem. The aim of LEAF is to eliminate this concern, so that people can buy electric vehicles without any fear. For this, a strong and reliable charging network will be created across the country.
LEAF will not be limited to just private companies, rather it will work in collaboration with government agencies. Its objective is to create a charging network as per the existing policies of the country, which can be implemented across India. With this initiative, it is expected that the sales of electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers will increase in the coming time. When charging becomes easy and reliable, more people will be attracted to EVs. Overall, the launch of LEAF is a big step for India’s EV sector, which will help in making the charging system easier, cheaper and better.
