Google Car YouTube Audio Controls: YouTube has rolled out background playback controls on Android Auto, but the feature is limited to premium users with limited functionality and no video playback interface available on the car screen.

YouTube has started rolling out support for background playback controls on Android Auto, allowing users to control the video’s audio directly from their car’s dashboard. This update enhances media control integration, but does not provide the full YouTube experience in the car.

With this new feature, YouTube content playing on the connected smartphone can be shown in the media widget of Android Auto. Users can pause or resume playback and skip to the next video using the on-screen controls or steering wheel buttons.

However, this is not a standalone YouTube app for Android Auto. There is no visual interface for browsing videos, and playback is limited to audio only. Skipping content skips to the next video instead of going back and forth in the current video.

Which users will benefit?
This update is especially beneficial for those who use YouTube to listen to podcasts, interviews or long discussions. It will now become easier to control content while driving.
