Ravichandran Ashwin reveals the key differences between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma

Ravichandran Ashwin opened up on what makes Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma stand out as Indian cricket stalwarts. The former teammate highlighted that both players have “very different personalities,” which also shows in their batting approaches. Kohli led from the front in Saturday’s IPL 2026 opener, smashing a 38-ball 69* to guide RCB past Sunrisers Hyderabad with six wickets in hand.

Ashwin explained that while Kohli anchors the innings with patience and precision, Rohit focuses on combining flair with a measured plan.

“Honestly, they have very different personalities. Virat likes to anchor the innings, be in the spotlight, and do things his way. Rohit, on the other hand, is more flamboyant and likes to attack the bowlers right from the first ball. I don’t see him changing that approach at all this season,” Ashwin said.

Virat Kohli powered RCB’s 202-run chase with a blistering 69 from 38 deliveries at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, hitting five boundaries and an equal number of sixes to keep the innings on track.

He was supported by Devdutt Padikkal, who tore through the bowling attack with a blistering 61 off just 26 deliveries, hitting seven boundaries and four sixes. Skipper Rajat Patidar contributed a rapid cameo of 31 runs from 12 balls, including three sixes and two fours, as RCB completed the chase in style.

Bengaluru crossed the finishing line in just 15.4 overs, marking the fastest 200-plus run chase in IPL history.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma made a memorable return to T20 cricket for the Mumbai Indians against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Despite getting a lfileine, Rohit responded in style, scoring a blazing 78 off 38 balls. His aggressive approach helped MI put up 80 runs in the power play.

Rohit’s innings ended in the 12th over when Vaibhav Arora got a crucial breakthrough, and Anukul Roy pulled off a stunning catch to send the former MI captain back to the pavilion.
