Chinese made CCTV cameras will be banned from tomorrow, you too should be careful

To avoid international threats and also self-reliant indiaTo encourage this, the government has recently announced new guidelines regarding CCTV cameras. The sale of Hikvision and Dahua CCTV cameras has been banned in India from April 1. Internet connected CCTV cameras of these companies will no longer be sold in the Indian market.

The government has decided not to certify CCTV cameras of Chinese companies under the new STQC i.e. Standardization Testing and Quality Certification rule. Apart from this, the CCTV cameras which use Chinese chipset will also not get the certificate. If you have or are planning to install cameras made by Chinese companies in your home or office, then it is very important to take some precautions.

A large number of CCTV cameras sold in India are of Chinese brands because they are cheap and easily available. However, like other cheap Chinese products, this camera is also not safe. The footage recorded by this camera may be under the control of the Chinese government, due to which national security may also be in danger.

Which CCTV to install?

Many countries including America have already warned about CCTV cameras of Chinese brands. In such a situation, the question becomes which secure camera to buy? At present, India is mainly dominated by domestic CCTV brands like CP Plus, Qubo, Prama, Matrix and Sparsh. You can install BIS (Bureau of Indian Standardization) standard cameras of these companies in your home or office.

How will the data be safe?

  • Do not store CCTV camera footage on internet servers, so that your personal data remains safe.
  • Insist on storing the data in local storage or local server only.
  • While purchasing cloud storage, it is important to keep in mind in which country its server is located. For example, cloud servers of brands like Google and Microsoft are located in America.
  • To prevent the camera from being hacked, the default username and password should be changed. Along with keeping a strong password, it should be changed from time to time.
  • The firmware of CCTV should also be updated so that hacking can be avoided.
