PSL 2026: Breaking the rules in Pakistan Super League proved costly, PCB’s action against Afridi’s son-in-law
In a letter to the Pakistan Cricket Board, Punjab Police accused Lahore captain Afridi and teammate Sikandar Raza of disobeying instructions and forcibly taking four guests to Raza’s room despite protests from the security personnel on duty on Saturday night.
Shaheen Afridi fined
“To maintain discipline and show responsibility, the franchise has taken a voluntary and proactive step by imposing a fine of Rs 1 million ($3500) on Shaheen Shah Afridi for his involvement,” Lahore said in a statement on Monday.
Afridi and Raza accused of breaking security protocol
The franchise did not provide much information about Raza’s role in the incident. But Pakistan-born Zimbabwe all-rounder Raza said on Sunday that he had always met family members and friends at the team hotel during the last four Pakistan Super Leagues, and he was not aware of this season’s security protocols that bar players from such hotel meetings.
Raza said that he took four of his friends to his room so that they could choose the cricket bats that they had brought with them.
Lahore, which has won three of the last four PSL titles, said it was a misunderstanding and not a deliberate attempt to break set security protocols.
On behalf of Lahore Qalandars, it was said, ‘The organization (Lahore) emphasized that the matter was unnecessarily escalated, which affected the image of the league both at the domestic and international level.’
