Meta’s new AI glasses to hit optical stores in the U.S. and global markets from April 14: Details here
Meta is set to launch two brand-new Ray-Ban AI smart glasses at optical stores across the US and select international markets beginning April 14 and this time, they’re built specifically for people who actually need glasses.
Meet Scriber & Blazer
The upcoming models, codenamed Scriber and Blazer, will come in rectangular and rounded styles and be sold through traditional prescription eyewear channels. The Scriber features a rounded frame design, while the Blazer offers a more angular, rectangular look
Why This Is a Big Deal
Prescription eyewear accounts for roughly 69% of the $223 billion global eyewear market. Meta is now targeting that massive, largely untapped audience. Unlike previous iterations, the new models are sold directly through optical stores, allowing customers to select frames and lenses during routine eye exams eliminating the need for separate purchases or customizations.
What’s Inside
The glasses pack 14-megapixel cameras, touch controls along the temples, five microphones, and IPX4 water resistance. Battery lasts a full day. Both models should also support Wi-Fi 6 UNII-4 band something the current Ray-Ban smart glasses lack opening the door to faster data transfer and possibly livestreaming.
Zuckerberg’s Bigger Vision
Zuckerberg previously said “billions of people wear glasses or contacts for vision correction,” adding that “it’s hard to imagine a world in several years where most glasses that people wear aren’t AI glasses.”
April 14 might just be the day that vision becomes reality.
