Gujarat: PM Modi inaugurates semiconductor OSAT facility in Sanand
Sanand, 31 March. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a one-day visit to his home state Gujarat, on Tuesday inaugurated Keynes Semicon’s outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OST) facility in Sanand. Now commercial operations have also started in this plant.
Sanand unit has been established with an investment of Rs 3,300 crore.
PM Modi inspected the plant and took stock of the infrastructure and ongoing operations there. The Sanand unit has been set up with an investment of approximately Rs 3,300 crore. This plant will handle semiconductor assembly, packaging and testing, which is an important part of the chip manufacturing value chain.
It is indeed a proud moment for India’s Semiconductor ecosystem that the Kaynes Semicon OSAT facility has been inaugurated in Sanand, Gujarat. This will boost India’s efforts of emerging as a leader in futuristic technologies and innovation. pic.twitter.com/Soz8BXPWaa

This facility is part of the Central Government’s efforts to increase domestic semiconductor manufacturing capabilities in the country under the ‘India Semiconductor Mission’. Commercial production at the plant has started with the manufacturing of intelligent power modules. These modules are extensively used in applications such as electric vehicles, industrial systems and energy-efficient appliances.
Production capacity expected to be around 6.3 million units per day
Each module integrates multiple chips into a single package, improving performance and efficiency. When the facility operates at full capacity, its production capacity is expected to be approximately 6.3 million units per day.
This plant will also help in meeting the needs of international markets.
The production of this plant will not only meet the domestic demand of the country but will also help in meeting the needs of international markets. This means that semiconductor companies around the world will also be supplied from this plant.
PM Modi said such projects will play an important role in making India a global semiconductor hub and promote self-reliance in the electronics sector. PM Modi was informed about the advanced packaging technology being used in Cannes Semicon’s unit. It includes special capabilities to handle tough semiconductor modules.
The Prime Minister interacted with the officials and staff present at the facility and also inspected the cleanroom and production lines. The government said the project is expected to help in increasing employment opportunities and development of skilled workforce in the field of high-tech manufacturing.
This facility located at Sanand is one of the semiconductor projects aimed at reducing import dependence and increasing value addition within India. In the same direction, Micron Technology’s unit was also inaugurated in February this year.
