IPL 2026: Shreyas Iyer fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over-rate
Game Desk: Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer was fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the fourth match of IPL 2026. The fine came under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences. Iyer has become the first captain to be punished for slow over-rate this season.
On the occasion, Punjab Kings made a great start to their IPL 2026 campaign by defeating Gujarat Titans by three wickets. Chasing the target of 162 runs, PBKS achieved the target in 19.1 overs with the help of Cooper Connolly’s brilliant inning of 72* runs in 44 balls. Connolly was named player of the match on his IPL debut.
Prasidh Krishna’s spell of 3/29 in the match helped Gujarat collapse from 110/2 to 118/6, but Cooper’s steady and brilliant batting helped Punjab win.
During the post-match presentation, Shreyas Iyer said, “I tried to remain calm in difficult times. Was concentrating on my hand and icing it. Suddenly we lost two wickets, but such things happen in IPL. Cooper was calm and composed there.” He praised Cooper’s innings, saying, “Cooper has a very good mindset, and I hope he continues his form.”
After the win against Gujarat, Punjab Kings’ next match will be against five-time champions Chennai Super Kings on April 3 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Super Kings lost their first IPL 2026 match against Rajasthan Royals by eight wickets on March 30 in Guwahati.
