‘This is not our war’ Britain’s PM Starmer gave a befitting reply to Trump, called a world conference to open Hormuz

New Delhi: British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has given a clear message to US President Donald Trump that Britain will not get involved in a war related to Iran. He said, “This is not our war.” He has also announced the launch of international efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

A befitting reply to Trump’s pressure

Trump recently put pressure on NATO allies and said that if help is not given to secure the Strait of Hormuz, NATO’s future could be “very bad”. On this, Starmer while addressing the press said that despite any pressure or noise, he will take decisions only in the national interest of Britain.

Starmer made it clear that Britain would not get involved in a broader war with Iran, but would work to strengthen maritime security and its own national security in the region.

International conference on Hormuz crisis

Prime Minister Starmer announced that Britain will host an international diplomatic conference this week. Its purpose is to find ways to reopen the Strait of Hormuz blocked by Iran. This strait is a very important route for oil transportation in the world.

Due to its closure, global oil prices have increased and trade is being affected. Starmer said that 35 countries have signed a joint statement, in which it has been resolved to restore maritime security.

Foreign Secretary Yvette Koper will lead this conference. Also, military planners are working on post-war security arrangements. Starmer said that a united front of military power and diplomatic efforts is necessary to bring stability.

Britain’s strategy

Starmer stressed that Britain would protect its citizens, interests and regional allies, but would not get involved in a major war. He also said that this issue should not be seen as a NATO mission. Instead he insisted on building a broad alliance with Gulf countries and European partners.

This development has come amid Iran-Israel-America tension, in which the issue of Hormuz has become a matter of major concern for the global economy. Britain’s stance shows that it is relying more on diplomacy and cooperation.
