Gmail ID Change Tips: Change your primary Gmail ID without losing old data, email and drive files will also remain completely safe.
News India Live, Digital Desk: Many times, out of enthusiasm we create a Gmail ID which later does not look professional, or we start receiving so many spam mails on the old ID that we want to change it. But there is a fear that our important emails, contacts and photos and videos kept in Google Drive may get deleted. The good news is that you can change your primary Gmail ID and all your valuable data will remain completely safe. Let us know its step-by-step easy method. Why is it difficult to make direct changes in Google account? According to Google’s policy, the Gmail ID (Username) once created cannot be changed directly by ‘editing’ it. For example, if your ID is rahul123@gmail.com, you cannot change it to rahul.official@gmail.com directly by going to Settings. For this you have to create a new ID and then ‘migrate’ the old data to the new ID. This may sound difficult, but Google’s inbuilt tools make it quite easy. How to transfer old emails and contacts: To bring your old emails to the new ID, you should use Google’s ‘Import Mail and Contacts’ feature. For this, login to the new Gmail ID, go to ‘Settings’ and click on ‘Accounts and Import’ tab. Here you will get the option of ‘Import mail and contacts’. Enter your old ID there. After this, all your old emails and contacts will gradually start appearing on your new ID. With this, you will not need to forward each mail. How to take backup of Google Drive and Photos? Along with Gmail, it is also very important to transfer the data of Google Drive and Google Photos. The best way for this is Google Takeout. You can go to takeout.google.com and download all the data from your old account as a zip file and then upload it to the new ID. Apart from this, you can also make the drive’s files ‘Owner’ by ‘Share’ it with the new ID, which will eliminate the hassle of transferring files. Setup automatic forwarding of new emails. When you shift to a new ID, many people only know your old ID. In such a situation, to avoid missing important mails, go to the settings of your old Gmail ID and select ‘Forwarding and POP/IMAP’ option. Here add your new ID as ‘Forwarding Address’. Now every new email coming on the old ID will automatically reach the inbox of your new ID. This method will help you create a new digital identity without any stress.
