Big achievement in GST collection in Bihar, increase of 11.67 percent compared to last year

A big achievement has come to light regarding GST collection in Bihar. The Commercial Tax Department has recorded record collection in the financial year 2025-26. The state has achieved impressive growth, surpassing last year’s figures.

GST collection increased by 11.67 percent

According to the department’s data, a total of ₹ 32,801.35 crore GST was collected in the financial year 2025-26. This is 11.67 percent more than the year 2024-25. Whereas after IGST adjustment, the state’s net GST collection stood at ₹32,077.22 crore, which shows an increase of 9.20 percent.

Bihar ranks fourth among big states

According to provisional data, Bihar has secured fourth position in the category of big states on the basis of total storage growth rate. This achievement is believed to be the result of improvement in tax administration and effective monitoring.

Better performance than national average

Bihar’s growth rate including SGST and IGST adjustment in March 2026 was 13 percent. This is much higher than the national average of 5 percent. On the basis of cash collection, Bihar recorded a growth of 10.60 percent, while the national average was 6.40 percent.

Total tax collection crosses ₹43,324 crore

The state’s total tax collection in the financial year 2025-26, including GST and non-GST, stood at ₹43,324.79 crore. This is 4.09 percent more than last year. However, against the target of ₹46,500 crore, the department achieved 93.17 percent collection.

Increased grip through data analytics and e-way bill

According to officials, the tax base has expanded due to e-way bill analysis, data analytics based monitoring, risk based investigation and better communication with taxpayers. Due to this, a permanent increase in revenue collection has been recorded.

Preparation for further improvements

The department has claimed that the tax system will be made more simple and transparent in the coming financial year. Besides, new steps will be taken to provide better services to the taxpayers and maintain the pace of revenue growth.
