Bengal Elections 2026: Will ‘Form 6’ turn the tables? Abhishek Banerjee’s revelations create panic in Mamata government
Kolkata: As the dates of West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 are coming closer, gunpowder has started being spread on the political ground of Bengal. But this time the discussion is not about bomb blasts, but about a piece of paper named ‘Form 6’. Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has made such a claim regarding this form, which has created a stir from the Election Commission to the opposition camp. After all, what is this Form-6 and why is Mamata government sweating after seeing it? Let us understand the whole story.
What is Form 6 and why is it so powerful?
First of all, know that Form 6 is not an ordinary document. The power of vote in democracy starts from this paper. If you have turned 18 years of age or have shifted to a new area, then you have to fill this form to get your name added to the voter list. Once your name appears in the list through this form, you have the power to choose the government.
TMC’s tension: Allegation of “vote theft in broad daylight”
Abhishek Banerjee has alleged that large-scale fraud is being done in Bengal through voter registration i.e. Form 6. While sharing a video on social media, he claimed that the Election Commission offices are filled with boxes of Form-6. Banerjee has termed it as “vote theft in broad daylight”. He says that thousands of such suspicious forms have been submitted, which have nothing to do with the real voters of the state.
Direct attack on BJP and fear of ‘outsider’ voters
Abhishek Banerjee has directly implicated BJP in this matter. He alleged that the way the electoral process was influenced in Maharashtra, Haryana and Delhi, the same ‘Bengal model’ is now being adopted. The biggest claim of the TMC leader is that people from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are being illegally included in the voter list of West Bengal so that the demography of the state can be changed and the election results can be influenced.
30 thousand forms in a day? Claim of flouting the rules
Attacking with figures, Abhishek Banerjee said that around 30,000 Form 6 have been submitted in a single day, which is against the rules of the Election Commission. According to the rules, a person cannot submit more than 50 forms at a time. TMC has demanded that this entire matter should be investigated impartially and the CCTV footage of the Election Commission offices should be made public.
Center cornered on border security and infiltration
Abhishek Banerjee also took on the central government on the issue of infiltration. He raised the question that when the security of the border and all the agencies are with the Central Government, then why is the State Government held responsible for infiltration? He alleged that on one hand there is talk of infiltration and on the other hand outsiders are being made voters through the back door.
Election mercury high in Bengal
These allegations have set the politics of Bengal on fire. Let us tell you that voting is to be held in Bengal in two phases on 23rd and 29th April, while the results will come on 4th May. In 2021, Mamata Banerjee had registered a landslide victory with 213 seats, but the ‘Form 6’ controversy has made the 2026 battle even more complicated.
