Mumbai: The shooting of the upcoming film based on cricket legend Sourav Ganguly has started. Rajkumar Rao is playing the role of grandfather in this film. Sharing this news on his Instagram, the actor wrote, ‘And it begins… The one and only #DADA’. Along with this post, a photo of Rajkumar Rao is also going viral, in which he is seen in Ganguly’s look.
Sourav Ganguly will be seen in ‘Dada – The Sourav Ganguly Story’
This film has been named ‘Dada – The Sourav Ganguly Story’. It is being directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, while the production responsibility has been handled by Luv Ranjan’s company Luv Films. This is the second project of Rajkummar Rao and Vikramaditya Motwane together. Earlier, both of them had worked in a film called ‘Trapped’ in 2017, which was successful at the box office.

This biopic was being discussed for the last few years. Initially Ranbir Kapoor’s name was being considered for the lead role, but now Rajkumar Rao has adopted this role. Sourav Ganguly is considered one of the most successful captains of Indian cricket. He took Team India to new heights and will always be remembered for his aggressive captaincy.
Rajkumar Rao will be seen in ‘Toaster’
The film will depict the story of struggle, success and controversies of Ganguly’s life. Rajkummar Rao is in the news these days due to his busy schedule. Apart from ‘Dada’, he will also be seen in films like Ujjwal Nikam’s biopic, ‘Toaster’ and ‘Raftaar’. The film ‘Toaster’ is scheduled to release on Netflix on 15 April 2026. At the same time, his film ‘Raftaar’ with Keerthy Suresh will hit the theaters on July 24, 2026. The release date of Ujjwal Nikam’s biopic has not been decided yet. Fans are waiting for this biopic. It will be quite exciting for Rajkummar Rao to play the character of cricket icon Sourav Ganguly. His performances have always been realistic and impressive, so it is expected that he will bring the character of Dada to life on screen.
