An attempt was made to create riots from the Hindu community in the Kalipahari area. The atmosphere, which was calm in the morning, turned violent in the afternoon. A nearly 200-year-old temple located in Ward No. 38 of the city was targeted by the Samajkantaks. According to locals, worship was going on in the temple as usual on Tuesday morning. When the devotees returned to the temple premises in the afternoon, they were shocked to see the situation there. The ancient idols of Goddess Kali, Lord Shiva and Hanumanji installed in the temple were lying in a broken state.

Not only this, the miscreants also damaged the idols of Brahma and Lord Vishnu. As soon as the news spread, the entire area was in a frenzy and a mob of angry people quickly gathered outside the temple. Due to this incident, there has been a stir in the political circles as well. As the 2026 assembly elections are approaching, the incident is not being seen as just an act of vandalism. Local corporator Meena Kumari Hansada reached the spot and condemned the incident in strong terms. This could be a premeditated conspiracy to disrupt the peace during this crucial election period, he clearly said.

Asansol South MLA Agnimitra Paul also immediately rushed to the spot and questioned the administration’s handling of the incident. He expressed concern that the lack of CCTV cameras in the temple area makes the investigation more difficult. Common people also have a question that our shops are no longer safe?

Tight security in the city

The anger created by the incident was palpable on the streets. Led by MLA Agnimitra Paul, local residents and BJP supporters organized a grand march from Bhairav ​​Baba Sthan. The protestors completely blocked the GT Road, which is considered the lifeline of Asansol and set arson to express their anger. The chaos brought traffic to a standstill for several hours, causing great inconvenience to the public.

Considering the seriousness of the situation, the administration has declared the area a camp. Central forces have also been deployed along with the police force to prevent any untoward incident.
