Now if there is a name mismatch between PAN and Aadhaar, the PAN card will be closed, know the easy way to fix it.
New Delhi. A big change is going to happen in April, which can directly impact the use of your PAN card. If you have not yet checked your PAN and Aadhaar details properly, then this is an alert for you. The government has clearly indicated that the PAN card of people whose name is spelled differently in PAN and Aadhaar (Mismatch Name) can be made ‘inoperative’ i.e. useless. This would mean that despite having your PAN, you would not be able to use it for banking, ITR filing or any other financial work.
It is necessary for both names to match
Often people think that just having PAN-Aadhaar link is enough, but now matching of name has also become equally important. Even a small spelling mistake can become a big problem for you. In such a situation, it is very important to do this work before April 1, so that no problem arises in future. The good thing is that you can correct this mistake sitting at home in just a few minutes.
what is the whole matter
The government has made it necessary to link PAN and Aadhaar so that transparency is maintained in the financial system. But now just linking is not enough. If the name is different in both the documents, then the system does not consider it correct. In such cases your PAN may be made ‘inoperative’ i.e. temporarily closed.
what will change
If you have not yet corrected the name mistake, you may face problems. Your PAN card will not be used for many important purposes. This means that despite having your PAN card, you will not be able to use it. If your PAN becomes inoperative, many tasks may come to a halt. You will not be able to file ITR. There may be problems in banking transactions. Loan, credit card and investment related work may also be affected.
Correct name mismatch in PAN-Aadhaar in minutes
If the name is different in your PAN and Aadhaar, then it is important to correct it. You can also do this work online sitting at home. Method 1: If the name is wrong in Aadhaar, then correct it like this. First of all, go to the official website of UIDAI and open the “Update Aadhaar” section. Now login with OTP by entering your Aadhaar number. After this select “Name Update” option and fill the correct name. Now you have to upload a valid document, like: PAN Card, Passport, Voter ID. After submitting, you will get an Update Request Number (URN), through which you can check the status.
Method 2: Correct name in PAN card
If the name in PAN is wrong, correct it online like this: Go to NSDL or UTIITSL website Open “PAN Correction” form. Now enter your PAN number and fill the correct name. After this upload the required documents: Aadhaar Card Identity Card, now pay the fees and submit the form. After this your update will be processed and you will get the new PAN card in a few days. The spelling of the name should be exactly the same in both (e.g. Kumar vs. K. will not work).
Method 3: Check PAN–Aadhaar link after correction
When your name is correct at both the places, then definitely check this: Go to Income Tax website and check “Link Aadhaar Status”. If not linked, then link PAN and Aadhaar again.
