New Delhi. Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam chief Vijay on Wednesday wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Union Home Secretary expressing concern over the alleged security lapse during his ongoing election campaign in Tamil Nadu. In his letter, Vijay mentioned an incident on March 30 when he was traveling from Perambur to Kolathur after filing his nomination papers. He alleged that the police escort (security cover) was inadequate and the traffic management was also inadequate, due to which safe movement of his convoy could not be ensured.

TVK president Vijay began a scheduled election campaign after filing his nomination in Perambur constituency. This campaign program was organized only after obtaining necessary permissions and approvals from the election authorities. TVK president Vijay, writing a letter to the Home Minister, said that after his campaign in Perambur, he moved to the next campaign venue in Kolathur constituency. It was shocking and a matter of grave concern to us that adequate police force was not deployed to ensure safe and uninterrupted movement of the VIP convoy carrying the protectee from Perambur to Kolathur. The TVK chief said he has been provided Y category security by the Union Home Ministry and is recognized as a protected person under the established security protocols. He further said that this campaign program was organized only after obtaining necessary permissions from the election authorities. He said that I am writing this letter to draw your immediate attention to the serious and worrying lapses in the security arrangements provided to TVK Chairman Vijay.
