UPI New Record: Now digital transactions worth Rs 1 lakh crore every day, UPI created a new record
UPI Record: The power of Digital India has once again been clearly visible. Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has created such a record in the financial year 2026, which has caught the attention of the entire country. In the entire year, transactions worth more than Rs 308 lakh crore were done through UPI.
If we talk only about March 2026, this figure reaches around Rs 30 lakh crore. This simply means that on an average, transactions worth about Rs 1 lakh crore are being done through UPI every day. This not only reflects the popularity of digital payments but also shows its increasing trust among the common people.
March 2026 becomes the biggest month for UPI
March 2026 proved to be the biggest month in the history of UPI. During this period, a total transaction of Rs 29.53 lakh crore took place, which is the largest monthly record so far. Also, 22.6 billion transactions were recorded this month, which is a new record. If we talk about the entire financial year 2026, the total transactions reached Rs 241.6 billion.
According to data from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), an average of Rs 84,500 crore was transacted daily throughout the year. This shows that India’s digital payment system is continuously becoming stronger.
Growth may be slow, but expansion continues
The growth of UPI is still continuing, but there has been a slight decrease in its speed. Transaction value grew by 18.5% in FY26, compared to 30% last year. Before that this growth had reached 40%.
Experts believe that as UPI reaches smaller towns and rural areas, the growth rate is naturally normalising. Despite this, total transactions and value are continuously increasing, which shows its steady success.

Small shopkeepers increased their pace
Small traders and shopkeepers have played a big role in the success of UPI. Merchant payments account for about 62% of the total transactions. However, person to person (P2P) transactions are still ahead in terms of value as larger amounts are transacted. At the same time, a large part of merchant payments are for small transactions of less than Rs 500, due to which the total value remains low. This is the reason why the use of UPI is increasing rapidly in small towns and villages and it is becoming an easy and reliable option for people of every category.
