28 years dream fulfilled

India won its first World Cup in 1983 under the leadership of former captain Kapil Dev. After that, the Indian team made several attempts, but every time they faced failure. However, almost 28 years later, a young Indian team achieved a feat that no one had even imagined. After hard work, this team once again won the ODI World Cup.

Dhoni becomes the second captain to lift the ODI World Cup trophy

You will be happy to know that Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the second Indian captain, after Kapil Dev, to lift the ODI World Cup trophy. During that tournament, the responsibility of leading his team to victory fell on Dhoni. He opened the batting when the team needed runs and time was short.

Dhoni formed an important partnership with Yuvraj Singh, in which Yuvraj contributed 21 runs. Together they changed the course of the match. Dhoni played a composed and balanced game, hitting fours when needed, but he did not play any risky shots.

Gambhir’s brilliant innings of 97 runs

In this historic encounter, the Indian team won its second ICC World Cup by defeating Sri Lanka by 6 wickets. The Sri Lankan team had given India a target of 275 runs to win. While chasing the target, Indian team’s star batsman Gautam Gambhir played a brilliant inning of 97 runs, which eased the way to victory.

After Gambhir, Dhoni scored 91* to lead India to victory, thus ending the drought of 28 years since 1983.
