Chairperson of the European Commission discussed with the UK PM, said- Iran’s actions are putting global economic stability at risk.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Thursday she discussed rising tensions in the Middle East with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and warned of risks to global economic stability. Von der Leyen said he had a good conversation with Keir Starmer yesterday. We discussed the situation in the Middle East and the Strait of Hormuz. Highlighting concerns over Tehran’s actions, Ursula von der Leyen said Iran’s actions were putting global economic stability at risk. He further said that both sides are working closely with international partners to deal with the situation. We will work with our partners to ensure that freedom of navigation is restored as quickly as possible. The Strait of Hormuz is an important center of global energy. The West remains a center of growing geopolitical tension amid the ongoing conflict in Asia. Von der Leyen also said the leaders discussed strengthening bilateral ties ahead of the EU-UK summit. He said we also discussed the upcoming EU-UK summit. This is an important opportunity to fulfill the promises made last year and further strengthen our partnership. Earlier, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer warned that the ongoing conflict in Iran will affect Britain’s future, and stressed that Britain is prepared to face its economic consequences. He said that no matter how strong this storm is, we are fully prepared to face it. The British Prime Minister also reiterated that this is not their war and the UK will not get involved in it as it is not in their national interest.
