“Team management supported Rizvi and it paid off”, said Pujara after DC’s win over LSG.

Game Desk: Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by six wickets, in which young batsman Sameer Rizvi’s brilliant unbeaten 70-run innings played a key role. Former Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara praised DC’s team management’s decision to bring in Rizvi as an impact player and called it the right move.

Speaking on Star Sports, Pujara said, “Bringing in Sameer Rizvi as an impact replacement for Ashutosh Sharma was a good move considering the situation required. DC had lost four wickets in the first five overs and they needed someone to take charge of the innings. The team management backed Rizvi, and it paid off.”

Batting first, Lucknow Super Giants scored 141 runs, due to which seamers Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan took three wickets each. In reply, DC easily achieved the target with six wickets and 17 balls to spare. Rizvi led the team to victory by scoring unbeaten 70 runs in just 47 balls.

Talking about the partnership between Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs, Pujara said, “Rizvi held one end while Stubbs supported him from the other end. The partnership between the two was very important. Batting was not easy as LSG bowlers were getting a lot of help from the lights, but Stubbs-Rizvi turned the game.”

With this win, DC started the IPL 2026 season on a great note and secured their fifth consecutive win against LSG. Now DC has become the third team, which has got this unique record against LSG in IPL.

After Rizvi’s innings of 70 runs, Pujara said, “Rizvi proved his worth, and I think he deserves more chances in the coming matches. Whether he is in the playing XI or as an impact player, I would choose him better than Ashutosh Sharma and Karun Nair.”
