IPL 2026: RCB Pacer Approaches Court Against Own Cricket Board Over Annual Central Contract | Report

IPL 2026: Royal Challengers Bengaluru pacer Nuwan Thushara, who was acquired for a bid of Rs 1.6 crore by the franchise, has registered a case against Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) after he was denied a No Objection Certificate (NOC) by the board to feature in the ongoing IPL 2026. Thushara claimed that he was denied an NOC on the basis of failing to meet the fitness standards set by the board. As per the report, Thushara has also been told not to renew his central contract anymore.

NewsWire, which is a Sri Lankan news agency, reported that Thushara has named Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva, Secretary Bandula Dissanayake, Treasurer Sujeewa Godaliyadda, and CEO Ashley de Silva in his case.

Hearing Scheduled For April 9

A hearing has been scheduled for April 9 to be addressed by the Colombo District Court on Thursday.

The report states that Thushara asserts his contract with SLC was set to end on March 31, and that he had communicated to the board his intention not to extend the contract and to step away from international cricket.

Thushara is said to maintain that his fitness level has been consistent throughout most of his career, which previously did not affect his opportunities for obtaining an NOC.

Due to these circumstances, Thushara allegedly considers the refusal to issue an NOC to be unfair and has consequently filed a lawsuit.

He has allegedly notified the court that not obtaining an NOC would lead to considerable financial and opportunity loss for him.
