Actually, Sri Lanka Cricket had refused to give him NOC (No Objection Certificate) due to failing the fitness test, after which Thushara has taken this step.

According to the report of Sri Lankan media Newswire, Nuwan Thushara has filed a case in the Colombo District Court against the decision of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board to deny him NOC. 31 year old Thushara has been retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2026, but without NOC he cannot play in IPL.

In such a situation, he has appealed in the court that Sri Lanka Cricket should be ordered to issue him NOC. The next hearing in this case will be on April 9. Let us tell you that Thushara has not suffered any injury recently, but the Sri Lankan board has decided not to give him NOC for failing in the fitness test.

Thushara wants to retire from international cricket

The report further states that, Thushara has said that his contract with SLC has ended on March 31 and he does not want to extend it further. Not only this, he has also told the board that he wants to retire from international cricket. His argument is that when he no longer wants to play for the country, then it is wrong to stop NOC on the basis of fitness test. He also said that his fitness had been at the same level earlier also and he was never stopped from playing then.

Nuwan Thushara’s IPL career

RCB bought Nuwan Thushara for Rs 1.6 crore in the mega auction of IPL 2025. Thushara was a part of last year’s champion RCB team, but he played only one match. Earlier he was a part of Mumbai Indians in 2024. Talking about Thushara’s IPL career, he has played a total of 8 matches so far and has taken 8 wickets. He has taken 174 wickets in 137 T20 matches so far.
