‘I would have banned him’
Former IPL chairman Lalit Modi has once again hit out at Lucknow Super Giants Sanjiv Goenka after the latter was involved in an intense conversation with the franchise captain Rishabh Pant and head coach Justin Langer following the team’s defeat against the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2026. Lalit Modi reacted to Michael Vaughan’s tweet on Goenka’s viral video, and the former boss of the cash-rich league slammed the famous owner.
Earlier, Sanjeev had credited former BCCI secretary Jay Shah for the growth of IPL. He commented after Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals were sold to new owners in record-breaking deals. Modi, who is widely renowned for launching the tournament and playing a key role in its success, didn’t like Goenka’s statement and reminded him about the main reason behind the popularity of the league.
Meanwhile, DC thumped LSG by 6 wickets in their campaign opener of the 19th season, which didn’t please the owner.

This is not good for the IPL. This is not good for any Indian player.🤯

However, Vaughan felt that the conversation between the LSG decision-makers was needed, considering the fact that IPL 2026 has just started.
“1st game into the tournament. No need for this,” Vaughan wrote.
Lalit Modi responded to Michael’s comment.

“I told you this guy @DrSanjivGoenka owner of @LucknowIPL is a complete looser and joker of the highest order – i am seriously embarrassed with his behaviour. I created the @IPL for fans and players alike. Not for this to happen every time every year. If I was still Chairman and commissioner I would have BANNED him immediately and made him forfeit his ownership of the team for ever. He is a complete pompous clown. There is a clause in the franchise agreement for this exact issue. #bcci implement it – keep integrity above all – sucking up to powers that be is not the way to allow him to get away. Fans and players alike will remember,” he wrote.
In the IPL 2024, Goenka had misbehaved with the then captain, KL Rahul, after a crushing defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Former player Virender Sehwag and several others had lambasted him. Rahul left the franchise before the start of the next season and was purchased by the Delhi Capitals in the mega auction.
