Congress released manifesto for Assam assembly elections
New Delhi. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday presented the party’s manifesto for the Assam assembly elections. This document focuses on 11 important areas such as governance, identity, and health. The manifesto was released during an election rally, where Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi and other senior leaders were also present.
Main points of the manifesto
The manifesto includes a total of 11 resolutions, which focus on governance, identity, health, infrastructure development, industrialization, agriculture, rural and urban development, climate change and safe Assam. Congress had earlier also announced ‘five guarantees’ during the visit of party president Mallikarjun Kharge on March 29.
Special schemes for women and senior citizens
The manifesto promises unconditional loan of up to Rs 50 thousand for women, pension of Rs 1250 to all senior citizens, cashless treatment of Rs 25 lakh, land lease for sons, and punishment of the culprits in the Zubeen Garg case within 100 days.

Voting for the 126-member Assam Assembly will be held on April 9, while the election results will be declared on May 4.
Rahul Gandhi’s statement
Rahul Gandhi said at the rally that Assam is a diverse region where different religions, castes, and ideologies reside. Underlining the thinking of Congress, he said that the party wants that the power of Assam should be in the hands of the local people and not from Delhi. He criticized the policy of BJP and said that Congress is trying to provide decision making power to the people of Assam.

The Congress leader made serious allegations against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, calling him the most corrupt chief minister of India and saying that his control is in the hands of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. He said that corruption has increased in Assam under the leadership of BJP and Sarma will be punished for this if the Congress government comes to power.
