Big step of the government: Now the supply of LPG will be faster, tanker will reach Visakhapatnam port.

New Delhi. The government has taken an important decision to further accelerate the supply of LPG (Cooking Gas) in the country. The 47 thousand metric tonne pine gas tanker coming from the Persian Gulf will now reach Visakhapatnam Port. Earlier this tanker was going to Mangalore and Dhamra Port of Odisha, but now a plan has been made to change the route to deliver gas faster to the eastern parts of the country.

Visakhapatnam Port Authority spokesperson said that this tanker will reach the port by Thursday. This 227 meter long refrigerated LPG ship passed through the Strait of Hormuz in March. Due to the ongoing war in Western Asia, gas supply is being affected, hence tankers are being given priority.

Tanker got delayed and new route

The Pine tanker had departed from Ghantoot in the UAE and was given special permission by Iran. The tanker reached Vadinar Terminal in Gujarat on March 28. But to save time in reaching the east coast, it will now be unloaded at Visakhapatnam. From here the gas will be distributed to different parts of the country through land route.

The government is not allowing any disruption in LPG supply and is adding new Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections. In the month of March, gas supply was started to more than 3.1 lakh homes and commercial establishments, while 2.7 lakh new connections were given. As of February, the total domestic PNG connections in the country were 1.64 crore.

The government has extended this campaign till June. Urban gas companies have been instructed to give priority to places like hostels and community kitchens. Adequate supplies of petrol and diesel are available and refineries are operating at full capacity. Households and CNG are being given first priority in the supply of natural gas, while industrial units will get about 80% of their average consumption.
