According to media reports, Sri Lanka Cricket had refused to give NOC to Thushara because he did not meet the fitness standards. However, Thushara says that her fitness is the same as always and she has never been stopped before with this level of fitness.
Thushara dragged Sri Lanka Cricket to court
Thushara has made top officials of Sri Lanka Cricket as respondents in his petition. This includes the names of Board Chairman Shammi Silva, Secretary Bandula Dissanayake, Treasurer and CEO Ashley DeSilva.
NOC was not received for IPL
The case has been scheduled for hearing on April 9 in the Colombo District Court. Thushara has demanded from the court that SLC should be directed to allow him to play in IPL 2026.
Thushara’s central contract ends on March 31
According to the report, Thushara’s central contract with Sri Lanka Cricket had ended on March 31. He had already informed the board that he did not want to extend his contract and wanted to stay away from international cricket.
Thushara also says that if she does not get the NOC, it will cause her financial loss as well as losing big career opportunities. The opportunity to play on a big stage like IPL is very important for any player.
It is noteworthy that Thushara was bought by RCB in 2025 for Rs 1.6 crore. He played one match in that season, in which the team also won the title. At the same time, in IPL 2026, RCB made a great start and defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in their first match.
Now it will be interesting to see what decision the court gives in this matter and whether Thushara gets a chance to play in IPL or not.
