Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Sports Minister V Abdurahiman has accused Lionel Messi’s Argentina national football team of “cheating” the state by allegedly failing to honour a commitment to play an exhibition match despite financial arrangements being made.
Speaking to a local television channel, the minister expressed deep disappointment over the development, stating that the initiative to bring the reigning world champions to Kerala was both an ambitious and emotional project.

According to Abdurahiman, the state government had engaged in extensive discussions to organise the proposed match. He noted that arranging funds—estimated at around ₹250 crore—was a significant challenge, requiring coordinated efforts to secure sponsors.
