Delhi High Court takes action on the controversial song of Honey Singh and Badshah

Amid the ongoing feud between singer and rapper Honey Singh and Badshah, his controversial song ‘Volume 1’ has once again landed him in trouble. The Delhi High Court has directed both the artistes to immediately remove their 2006-07 released song ‘Volume 1’ from all social media platforms. The court found the song to be highly obscene, blatantly objectionable and derogatory towards women, artistic values and social norms.

The court said that the lyrics of the song are not only objectionable, but also attempt to portray women as objects of ridicule and sexual gratification. The court also made it clear that online dissemination of this type of content, including among minors, in the name of freedom of artistic expression is not justified. The court said that this is one of those rare cases where his conscience has been deeply hurt.

The court said in its order that no civilized society should allow such content to be freely available or make profit from it. Respondent Nos. 4 (Spotify) and 5 (Honey Singh) are directed to immediately remove such content from the social media platforms or other online spaces. Honey Singh and Badshah started their career as members of the rap group Mafia Munder, which also included Ikka, Lil Golu and Raftaar.
