Why Boondi Ladoos Are Offered On Hanuman Jayanti, Plus An Easy Recipe To Make Them
Hanuman Jayanti is a widely celebrated Hindu festival across India. It marks the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman and is observed every year on the day of Purnima (full moon) in the month of Chaitra. In India, the festival is being celebrated today, April 2. From early morning, large numbers of devotees can be seen visiting temples dedicated to Lord Hanuman. To mark the occasion, temples are beautifully decorated and special programs of bhajans, kirtans, and community feasts (bhandaras) are organized. Many devotees observe a fast on this day and, after evening prayers, offer Boondi or Besan Ladoos, considered Lord Hanuman’s favorite sweet as bhog. Why Are Ladoos Offered To Lord Hanuman?
Tuesday is considered an auspicious day for Lord Hanuman, and devotees visit temples to offer bhog of sweet boondi. On the special occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, offering Boondi or Boondi Ladoos holds special significance. It is believed that worshiping Lord Hanuman removes obstacles and troubles from life, which is why he is known as Sankatmochan – the remover of difficulties. Boondi Ladoos are said to be very dear to him. According to belief, his mother Mata Anjani fed him ladoos during his childhood, which is why this sweet remains closely associated with him.

How To Make Boondi Ladoo At Home
Ingredients
- 500g gram flour
- 1 liter water or milk
- 750 g ghee (for frying)
- 750g sugar
- 3½ cups water
- 10-12 drops orange color
- 10-12 saffron strands, soaked
- 50 g cashew nuts, chopped
- 50 g raisins
- 10 cardamoms, peeled and crushed
- Boondi strainer or ladle with medium-sized holes

Step-by-Step Boondi Ladoo Recipe
Step 1
Prepare a smooth, thin batter using gram flour and water or milk. Heat ghee in a deep pan over medium heat.
Step 2
Pour the batter into the boondi strainer or frying ladle, filling it halfway.
Step 3
Hold the strainer over hot ghee and gently tap it so small droplets fall into the oil evenly. Work quickly and carefully.
Step 4
Fry the boondi until lightly golden, then drain excess ghee and remove. Repeat until all the batter is used.
Step 5
Prepare a sugar syrup by boiling sugar and water until it reaches one-string consistency.
Step 6
Add saffron water and food color to the syrup. Mix in the fried boondi, dry fruits, and crushed cardamom thoroughly.
Step 7
After 10 minutes, sprinkle a little hot water, cover, and rest for about 11/2 hours. Shape into round ladoos using moist hands.
