New Delhi: The much-awaited teaser of Ramayana Part 1, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, has finally dropped, offering audiences a visually rich glimpse into one of India’s most revered epics. Slated for a Diwali 2026 release, the film has already sparked widespread discussion, with fans dissecting every frame for clues about characters, storyline and cinematic scale.
Headlined by Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, the teaser blends grandeur with restraint, focusing on mood, imagery and symbolism rather than dialogue-heavy storytelling.
Ranbir Kapoor as Rama takes centre stage
The teaser firmly places Lord Rama at the heart of the narrative. Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal appears calm, composed and deeply rooted in righteousness, aligning with the image of Maryada Purushottam.
Without relying on dialogues, the teaser uses silence and visual storytelling to convey emotion. One standout moment shows Rama seated on a boat amid a serene forest setting, radiating what can only be described as a “celestial” presence. The only audible utterance of “Rama” adds to the spiritual intensity of the sequence.
The narrative arc briefly traces his journey from the royal comforts of Ayodhya to the trials of exile, hinting at the battles, moral dilemmas and triumphs that define the epic.
Key characters remain understated
While Rama dominates the teaser, other central characters are only briefly introduced. Sai Pallavi appears as Sita, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, both sharing fleeting yet significant moments alongside Rama during the exile sequence.
Veteran actor Arun Govil, who famously portrayed Rama in the 1987 television adaptation, plays King Dasharatha. His limited screen presence still manages to convey emotional depth, especially in scenes depicting the king’s internal conflict as Rama leaves Ayodhya.
These glimpses, though brief, establish the emotional backbone of the story without revealing too much.
Ravana’s shadow looms large
The antagonist, Ravana, played by Yash, is introduced through a striking silhouette rather than a full reveal. His imposing presence is seen walking towards the mythical Pushpaka Vimana, adding intrigue and anticipation.
Another important element featured is the golden deer episode involving Maricha, a key turning point in the epic. A shot of Rama aiming his bow at the deer hints at the sequence that eventually leads to Sita’s abduction.
The teaser also includes a brief glimpse of a massive, ogre-like figure, widely speculated to be Kumbhakarna, though there has been no official confirmation.
Notable absences spark curiosity
One of the biggest talking points is the absence of Sunny Deol as Hanuman, despite confirmation of his casting. His character remains completely under wraps, building anticipation for future reveals.
Other pivotal characters such as Mandodari, Kaikeyi and Surpanakha are also missing from the teaser. While there have been reports of Rakul Preet Singh and Lara Dutta being associated with these roles, no official announcements have been made.
Their absence suggests that the makers are deliberately holding back key narrative elements to maintain suspense.
A grand cinematic vision in the making
The teaser reflects a clear attempt to balance scale with storytelling. While the visual effects have sparked mixed reactions online, the overall presentation hints at a carefully crafted retelling of the epic.
