KKR told to replace Cameron Green with Tim Seifert in the playing XI after poor start: ‘He doesn’t fit in this team’
Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has found himself as the hot topic in this edition of the Indian Premier League. With constant debate around his role, the pressure has only grown, especially within this Kolkata Knight Riders setup. His place in the starting XI had already been under scrutiny, with many critics questioning his credentials, as he is not yet cleared to bowl by Cricket Australia.
KKR’s thumping defeat to SRH in their first home game at Eden Gardens added fuel to this fire. Asked to bat first, SRH posted a commanding 226/8, powered by an 82-run opening stand between Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. Heinrich Klaasen. In reply, KKR showed glimpses of intent but couldn’t build on it. Losing wickets quite often, they were eventually bowled out for 161 and lost the clash by 65 runs in front of their home crowd.
For Green, it was another forgettable outing. He managed just 2 runs and was run out after a mix-up with Angkrish Raghuvanshi, a moment that summed up his struggles so far.
The spotlight grew, and this time, the legendary Indian spinner, Harbhajan Singh, didn’t hold back.
“I feel that Cameron Green doesn’t fit in this team, and the simple reason is that he isn’t bowling. The team should bring in Tim Seifert and have him open the innings, because if Cameron Green isn’t going to bowl, there are better options available purely as a batter. That option is Seifert. Then there’s Rovman Powell, who could also be played,” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.

The comment clearly highlighted that if Green’s contribution comes only with the bat, then there are more effective players in that role, such as Tim Seifert and Rovman Powell.
“KKR must be feeling the pressure”
Green, who managed just 20 runs across 2 matches, and with his bowling unavailability due to concerns around his back, certainly hands KKR something to think about.
“Now, suddenly, KKR’s team must be feeling the pressure because they have lost both of their first two matches, one at home and one away. If they want to make a comeback from here, they need to fix a few things. First, they have been hit hard in both matches, first by Mumbai and now at home by SRH. So what needs to be done? Their bowling needs some improvement. Also, as I’m saying, instead of Green, maybe the team should play Tim Seifert or Rovman Powell, who can give a bit more power and score big runs at the top of the order. If Powell is played lower down the order, he still bats decently,” he added.
Yet to score points this season, KKR already find themselves under pressure. In the end, tough calls have to be made for the betterment of teams and if there is a chance to turn things around.
