Congress stakes in Tamil Nadu elections, first list of 27 candidates released, many stalwarts including state president are in the fray
Shiv Shankar Savita- Political turmoil has intensified regarding Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Congress Party has released its much-awaited first list of 27 candidates. While confidence has been expressed in many experienced leaders in this list, an attempt to solve social and regional equations through new faces is also clearly visible. As soon as the list was released, the stir in the politics of the state has intensified. The biggest name in this list is Tamil Nadu Pradesh Congress Committee President K. Selvaperunthagai, who has been fielded by the party from Sriperumbudur (SC) seat. This seat is considered historically and emotionally very important for the Congress. The state president himself contesting the elections is an indication that this time the party is entering the electoral fray in Tamil Nadu with full strength.
Former MP becomes candidate from Krishnagiri
Apart from this, former MP Dr. A. Chella Kumar has been made the candidate from Krishnagiri seat. Chella Kumar is counted among the strong and popular leaders of the area, due to which the contest on this seat is expected to be interesting. In this list of Congress, candidates have been selected keeping in mind different regions and social classes. Durai Chandrasekhar from Ponneri (SC), JMH Asan Maulana from Velachery, AM Muniratnam from Sholingur, R Kuppu Sami from Uthangarai (SC) and GKM Tamil Kumaran from Pennagaram have been given tickets. Similarly, Attur (SC) to S.K. Gopinath Palaniappan from Arthanari, Erode (East), B. from Oodhagamandalam. Ramachandran, K.P. from Kavundampalayam. Surya Prakash and M.V. from Singanallur. Srinithi Naidu has been made the candidate. Veechu Lenin Prasad from Thuraiyur (SC), A.S. Chandrasekaran, Jamal Yunus Mohammed from Mayiladuthuri and T. Ramachandran from Aranthangi have been fielded.
Sangai Ganesan gets a chance from Sankarankovil
Apart from this, S from Karaikudi. Mangudi, T. Saravana Kumar from Usilampatti, Ganesan Ashokan from Sivakasi, Rama Karumanikkam from Thiruvadana and S. from Srivaikuntam. Urvashi Amirtharaj has got the ticket. Sangai Ganesan from Sankarankovil (SC), V.P. from Ambasamudram. Durai, Ruby Manoharan from Nanguneri, Dr. Tharagai Cuthbert from Colachel, T.T. from Villavancode. Praveen and Advocate S from Killiyur. Rajesh Kumar will also be the Congress candidate. Political analysts believe that Congress has selected the candidates in this list keeping in mind the caste and regional balance as well as the ‘winnability factor’ i.e. the possibility of victory. In Tamil Nadu, Congress has traditionally been a part of the alliance led by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, hence this list is also being considered important in terms of the alliance’s strategy.
