Speaking about his Marathi debut, Abhishek Bachchan mentioned his 25-year friendship with Riteish Vilasrao Deshmukh. They first met during the shooting of the film ‘Zamin’, after which they worked together in several films.

Abhishek Bachchan further said that Riteish Deshmukh had a dream of making a film on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj for many years and he consistently pursued it. His ambitious concept as a director is now being realized.

The film ‘Raja Shivaji’ is presented by Jio Studios and produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Genelia Deshmukh. The film is slated to release on 1 May 2026 in Marathi, Hindi and Telugu languages.
