The hospital is stopping the MRI machine! A global helium crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, also stalled the technology sector

Wars in West Asia have disrupted international supply chains. The world is suffering from lack of fuel oil and LNG due to Iran’s ban on Hormuz. But it’s not just oil that Hormuz has locked down in areas like technology, medicine and semiconductors. Because helium gas is the most important material to power these fields. One-third of the world’s helium gas is exported through the Strait of Hormuz. India imports 100 percent of the helium it needs. It has practically come to a standstill due to the war.

Important helium gas is obtained only through extraction of LNG. Which is used in technology, medicine, space research and semiconductor. Since the gas is extremely light, it is difficult to store it. Even if stored, it slowly dissipates into the atmosphere. which is impossible to recover. Meanwhile, the report says that global helium reserves are limited to only 45 days. Therefore, if the Strait of Hormuz is not opened, the crisis will take a dire shape all over the world. Meanwhile, it is known that Iran’s attack has seriously damaged the fuel gas production area in Qatar. Along with LNG, helium production has also suffered. 30 to 33 percent of the world’s helium needs come from Qatar. America and Russia produce some helium, but not enough. As a result, anxiety started to increase.

According to informed sources, the world’s medical sector is going to be the most affected by the helium crisis. Helium is mostly used in MRI machines. As a result, it is feared that its deficiency will cause a great shock to the world’s health system. The semiconductor industry will face obstacles. The use of semiconductors continues to grow in the age of artificial intelligence. Helium is in great demand in this industry. This gas is used to cool semiconductors during manufacturing. A supply cut may stop chip production. Due to which the data center and AI sector will face bottlenecks.

Not only that, helium is also widely used in space research. Helium is used as a fuel to launch rockets and create high pressure. It also has importance in industries such as leak detection, fiber optics and welding. According to information, more than 200 of the numerous ships currently stuck in Hormuz have this necessary helium. Helium prices have skyrocketed as demand increases due to supply shortages. India also imports 100 percent of its helium needs. The situation going to the stage may have a serious impact in the country in the future.
