PM Awas Yojana 2026: Under the scheme, people living in slums are given assistance of up to Rs 1 lakh to build houses, while low income group families get financial assistance of up to Rs 1.5 lakh.

PM Awas Yojana 2026: The main objective of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is to provide a permanent roof to the economically weaker families, so that the people living in slums or kutcha houses can get a safe and respectable life. The government wants that every needy family should have its own strong house.

Benefit of financial assistance and subsidy

Under this scheme, people living in slums are given assistance of up to Rs 1 lakh to build houses, while families from low income groups get financial assistance of up to Rs 1.5 lakh. Apart from this, if a person takes a loan up to Rs 8 lakh to buy or build a house, then interest subsidy of up to 4% is also given by the government.

Priority to women, elderly and disabled

A special feature of the scheme is that priority is given to the elderly and disabled. Also, to empower women, they get additional benefits by registering the house in their name. All the houses are constructed as per the standards of the National Building Code, so that the houses are safe and durable.

Category decided on the basis of income

Before applying for this scheme, please check the category based on your income. Those whose annual income is up to Rs 3 lakh come under EWS, those earning up to Rs 6 lakh come under LIG and those earning up to Rs 18 lakh come under MIG category. The thing to note is that those who already have a permanent house cannot avail the benefits of this scheme.

Online Application Process

  • To apply, first of all you have to go to the official website pmaymis.gov.in and select the option ‘Apply for PMAY U 2.0’. After this, select your income category and complete the verification through OTP by entering the Aadhaar number. The form can be easily submitted after filling the required information and uploading the documents.

Offline application options

  • People who do not have internet facility can also apply by visiting their nearest public service center. Apart from this, forms related to this scheme can also be obtained by visiting bank branches.

Required documents and verification process

  • For the application, Aadhar card, PAN card, bank account information and income certificate of all the family members are required. If someone is building a house on his own land, then documents related to it will also have to be submitted. After the application is submitted, it is scrutinized by the Municipality or Gram Panchayat and if found eligible, the assistance amount is sent directly to the beneficiary’s account.
