A division bench of Justice Munir and Justice Tarun Saxena said that such cases highlight a very dangerous situation in the society.
The court said, “This is a very serious matter,” and refused to hear a plea seeking quashing of the extortion case registered against five people, including some policemen, after a man accused them of honeytrap. The court said that this matter requires a thorough investigation by the Inspector General of Police of Meerut Zone. The court further said that the police chiefs of the districts should be alerted so that they remain aware of such gangs operating in their areas.
The court said in its order, “They should alert all the district police chiefs of the zone to keep a strict vigil; if any such gang is active, or any other gang is also active, which is blackmailing innocent people by honey-trapping them by using women or in any other way, and giving the same results. If such crimes are allowed to continue, it will become difficult to live in a civilized world.”
In the case registered by the Bijnor police, the complainant alleged that after he had physical relations with a woman at a hotel in Bijnor, the accused blackmailed him. According to the police case, the woman had recorded some video clips. She told that the accused had demanded Rs 8 to 10 lakh to hush up the case.
