Shashi Tharoor’s convoy attacked in Kerala, security personnel assaulted

The convoy of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has been attacked in Malappuram district of Kerala. Along with stopping his convoy, his security personnel were beaten up. The incident took place on Friday (March 3), when Tharoor was going to Wandoor for election campaign.

According to the information, Tharoor was going to campaign in support of United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate AP Anilkumar. Meanwhile, a group of about eight people stopped his convoy midway and did not allow it to proceed further. When a member of his security team got out of the vehicle to intervene, he was allegedly assaulted.

The local police has registered a case in this matter and two people have been detained. However, police officials say that initial investigation has not revealed any clear political reason behind the incident.

After the incident, Shashi Tharoor, while reacting on the social media platform ‘X’, thanked the supporters and well-wishers. He wrote, “He is fine and I am unharmed. Thanks to all friends and well-wishers. We worked without fear yesterday and completed two more events as planned.” That means they are safe and the program continues as scheduled.

Despite the incident, Tharoor continued his election program and addressed a public meeting in Wandoor. He expressed confidence that the United Democratic Front (UDF) will win majority in the upcoming assembly elections.

Voting is to be held in Kerala in a single phase on April 9, while counting of votes will take place on May 4. On the question regarding the post of Chief Minister, Tharoor said that the decision will be taken by the Congress high command on the basis of the opinion of the elected MLAs.

In his address, he prominently raised the issue of employment in the state. Tharoor said that due to youth not getting employment opportunities, they are leaving the state and going to other places, which needs to be stopped.

Additionally, Tharoor criticized the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, calling it appalling and said the government should not have the right to take over church-run schools, hospitals and orphanages. He also demanded to send this bill to the standing committee for further review.
