Congress wrote a letter demanding an all-party meeting of the opposition on ‘Women Power Act’

New Delhi. National President of Congress and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge has written a letter to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, reiterating his demand to call an all-party meeting to discuss the implementation methods and roadmap of ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act-2023’. This letter has been signed by more than 10 opposition MPs including Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh, Samajwadi Party MP Ramgopal Yadav.

Kharge said in his letter that he had also written to Kiren Rijiju on March 16, 2026, that an all-party meeting under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister should be called as soon as possible. The government is now planning another amendment to this constitutional amendment passed in September 2023. Opposition parties have demanded a meeting to discuss this proposed amendment.

Kharge said that to make the meeting more productive, the government should first issue a note clarifying what exactly is being proposed. The meeting should be held on April 29 after the completion of the current round of assembly elections. Earlier on March 16, Rijiju had written a letter to Kharge saying that the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’ is a historic step to give 33 percent reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. He had stressed the need for national consensus to implement it and urged detailed talks with the Congress leadership.

In response, Kharge had demanded an all-party meeting and said that this law was passed without any consent in September 2023 and now after 30 months, the government wants to discuss the ways of its implementation. Congress believes that an all-party meeting should be called under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister to discuss this issue together with all the opposition parties.
