According to average water quality data from 2025 (January to August), pH and dissolved oxygen levels in the river are within bathing standards at all locations. pH (Potential of Hydrogen) is a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a liquid or solution by measuring the amount of hydrogen ions present in it. He said that the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) monitors the water quality of river Ganga at a total of 112 locations in five states.

Minister Chaudhary said that in terms of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), water quality in the entire river reaches of Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal meets bathing standards. However, in parts of Uttar Pradesh from Farrukhabad to Purana Rajapur in Kanpur, Dalmau in Rae Bareli and lower Mirzapur to Tarighat in Ghazipur, it does not fully meet the standards.
