Mbeng initially joined the Jazz on a 10-day contract on March 13, following a season with the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The 22-year-old averaged 5.0 points, 3.4 assists, and 3.4 rebounds in 11 appearances for Utah this season.

A product of Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Maryland, Mbeng played four seasons at Yale from 2021–2025. Despite going undrafted, his performance in the G League and short NBA stints earned him a permanent roster spot.

The Jazz are facing significant injury challenges, with key players such as Lauri Markkanen, Jaren Jackson Jr., Walker Kessler, and Jusuf Nurkic sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Guard Isaiah Collier and Elijah Harkless are also listed as out for Friday’s game against the Rockets. Mbeng’s signing provides depth in the backcourt amid the team’s current 21-56 record.
