DC and RR hit, CSK and MI flop in Impact Player! View stats from first 9 matches
In the first nine matches of IPL 2026, the impact player is no longer just an option but seems to be becoming a deciding factor in the match. Data shows that teams that used this rule at the right time and in the right role have controlled the match. Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) especially seem to be at the forefront in this matter. On the other hand, the data of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) is worrying. The impact players of these teams either failed to make an impact on the match or their role appeared to be different from the outcome of the match.
If we look at the data so far, the teams which fielded specialist players as impact players at the right time got direct benefits. While Delhi has found a match finisher in Sameer Rizvi, Rajasthan has shown the art of turning matches in bowling through Ravi Bishnoi. On the contrary, the strategic decisions of Mumbai and Chennai have upset their balance, due to which this rule is proving to be a burden rather than a boon for them.

Figures of Sameer and Bishnoi
Delhi Capitals made tremendous and correct use of the impact player rule. Sameer Rizvi, becoming an impact player, scored unbeaten 70 runs against LSG in the 5th match of IPL 2026, while in the 8th match he scored 90 runs against Mumbai Indians. In both the matches, the team was chasing runs and Delhi won comfortably.
Talking about Rajasthan Royals, they have used the Impact Player rule in only one match so far. In that match, Rajasthan had fielded Ravi Bishnoi as their impact player and he proved to be a game-changer. In this low-scoring match against Gujarat Titans, Ravi Bishnoi played an important role by taking four wickets. Rajasthan managed to win this match by a margin of six runs.

CSK and MI missed strategy
Impact players were completely ineffective in both the matches of CSK. In the first match, Sarfaraz Khan scored only 17 runs, while in the second match of CSK, Rahul Chahar could not take a single wicket. The team lost both these matches. This means that the impact players for CSK were neither helpful in batting nor in bowling, nor did the other players of the team show any strength.
The condition of Mumbai Indians is no different. In one match, Suryakumar Yadav could score only 16 runs as an impact player, while in the other match Mayank Markande was an impact player and could not take any wicket. Interestingly, MI won one match but in that too the contribution of the impact player was very less. This shows that MI’s strategy is not clear yet.

Mixed effect in other teams
The performance of other teams was not completely balanced. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) benefited greatly from Devdutt Padikkal (61 runs), who won the match. For Kolkata Knight Riders, Finn Allen made a quick impact by scoring 28 runs in 7 balls, but it did not prove to be a match-winning performance.
Priyansh Arya gave 39 runs in every match for Punjab Kings, while Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad had an average average. Overall, the data suggests that the team that uses impact players in the right role at the right time will win matches in IPL 2026.
