Car fell into ditch near Soja, 4 killed, 18 injured rescued – Obnews
In a tragic road accident in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, a tempo traveler carrying 22 passengers skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge near Soja on April 4, 2026, resulting in the death of four people and the rescue of 18 others.
According to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anurag Chandra Sharma, there were 20 adults and two children in the vehicle. “As per information received by Kullu Police Control Room, a passenger vehicle met with an accident near Sojha after it fell off the road,” he said. Four people are reported to have died in the accident — including two men and two women — while the remaining 18 people, including two children, were rescued and sent to the Community Health Center (CH) Banjar for immediate medical treatment.
A joint rescue operation involving the district administration, police, revenue department, fire services and health department was immediately launched. Local residents also played a commendable role in these efforts. Officials confirmed that search and verification operations continued at the scene to ensure that no one remained trapped or missing.
The injured are being monitored at CH Banjar, where doctors are providing them all necessary medical aid. His condition is being monitored, although details regarding the severity of his injuries were not immediately available.
The accident occurred in Banjar tehsil area, near the road connected to Jalori Pass – a popular tourist spot. Initial reports suggest that difficult road conditions in the hilly terrain may have been the cause of the accident, but its exact cause — which includes possibilities such as slipping or mechanical failure due to rain — is still under investigation by authorities.
The incident highlights the risks associated with Himachal Pradesh’s hill roads, especially during inclement weather.
