Devastation in Tehran: 13 people killed in attack on residential building, Sharif University damaged

Dubai: At least 13 people were killed in an airstrike on a residential building in a city southwest of Iran’s capital Tehran. Iranian media gave this information. Semi-official news agencies Fars and Noor News reported that the attack occurred near Islamshahr. It was not clear why this building was targeted. Neither Israel nor America has taken responsibility for these attacks that took place on Monday morning. These attacks have come at a time when US President Donald Trump has given a stern warning to Iran, saying that it will have to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, Sharif University of Technology was targeted in multiple air strikes in Tehran early on Monday. Iranian media reported the attacks and the damage caused to buildings there, as well as the impact on a natural gas distribution center located near the complex. It was not immediately clear what was targeted inside the university campus. Due to the war, online classes are being taken, due to which the university is empty.

The university has been under sanctions by many countries for years because of its links to military activities, particularly Iran’s ballistic missile program. This missile program is under the control of the paramilitary force Revolutionary Guard. The Revolutionary Guard and other security forces are using alternative locations due to continued attacks on their positions. The sounds of explosions kept echoing throughout the night. The sound of fighter planes flying at low altitude also continued to be heard for several hours.

Meanwhile, state newspaper ‘Iran’ said in an online news that at least five people were killed in an airstrike in a residential area of Qom, a city located south of Tehran. It was not clear what was targeted in the attack in Qom.
