Are you troubled by heavy electricity bills? Before buying, know which AC will save your money: – ..
News India Live, Digital Desk: As the summer heat rises in India, the demand for air conditioners (AC) in homes and offices has increased rapidly. Currently, there are many options of split and window ACs available in the market, but the biggest question in the minds of customers is ‘which AC will consume less electricity?’ Often people choose the wrong AC thinking it is cheap and later remain troubled with huge electricity bills month after month. If you are also planning to buy a new AC, then wait! It is very important for you to understand the difference between split and window AC before purchasing.
Split AC: Style along with savings
Split AC has become the first choice for modern homes these days. It has two units – one inside the room and the other outside. Its biggest feature is that it makes very little noise. In terms of electricity consumption, split AC is considered more economical than window AC. Especially if you choose ‘Inverter Split AC’, it adjusts the compressor speed according to the room temperature, thereby saving huge electricity. However, its price and installation charges are slightly higher than window AC.
Window AC: Fits the budget, but heavy on electricity?
Window AC is a great option for those who want instant cooling in a low budget. It is very easy to install and does not require separate piping in the wall. But, the biggest challenge with window AC is its noise and power consumption. Older model window ACs consume more electricity than split ACs. However, now 5-star rated inverter window ACs have also come in the market, which save electricity, but in terms of cooling, they are not considered as effective as split ACs.
Take special care of star rating
Whether you buy a split or window AC, its ‘star rating’ matters the most. 1-star AC is the cheapest but it rotates the electricity meter very fast. In contrast, an AC with a 5-star rating may be a little expensive in the initial investment, but over a year it can save thousands of rupees in your electricity bill. Experts recommend that if your AC runs for 5-8 hours daily, then always buy a 3-star or 5-star inverter AC.
Room size and maintenance are also important
Before buying an AC, measure the size of your room. For a room of 100-120 square feet, a 1 ton AC is sufficient, while for 150-200 square feet, it is wise to go for a 1.5 ton AC. Buying a wrong size AC will reduce cooling and consume more electricity. Moreover, servicing of split AC is a bit expensive as it has to take care of gas leakage and piping, whereas maintenance of window AC is much cheaper and easier.
