LPG supply back on track in India: restored up to 70%

Despite the fierce war between Iran vs America, LPG supply in the country seems to be gradually normalizing. Government oil company Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) said on Monday (April 6) that the supply of commercial LPG has now reached about 70 percent of the pre-crisis level. The company said that despite the current circumstances, it is continuously working to ensure uninterrupted energy supply to domestic and commercial consumers across the country.

Meanwhile, according to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, a tremendous increase has been seen in online LPG booking and this figure has reached 95 percent. On April 4 itself, more than 51 lakh domestic gas cylinders were delivered across the country, which is an indication of the rapid normalization of the supply system.

The government also clarified that there is no shortage of stock anywhere in the gas agency network across the country. To keep supplies transparent and systematic, the use of Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) based deliveries has been increased to 90 percent, which was only 53 percent in February.

Consumers have been advised to use only digital means for booking gas cylinders and avoid visiting gas agencies unnecessarily. During this period the demand for small cylinders has also increased. There has been a surge in the sales of 5 kg LPG cylinders and since March 23, around 6.6 lakh cylinders have been sold.

According to the government, all the refineries of the country are working at full capacity and adequate reserves of crude oil are available. The supply of petrol and diesel also remains completely stable.

Officials said there is no fuel shortage in the country and people should avoid panic booking or unnecessary stockpiling. IOCL also assured that supplies are being given to critical sectors like hospitals, pharma and educational institutions on priority basis. Overall, despite the current global crisis, India’s energy system remains stable and the situation is gradually moving towards normalcy.
