Kolkata: Three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won the toss and decided to bat first in the 12th match of IPL 2026 against Punjab Kings (PBKS). This high-voltage match is being played at the historic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Monday.
After winning the toss, Kings captain Ajinkya Rahane revealed that Varun Chakravarthy had got injured while taking a catch in the previous match. Rahane said, “We will bat first. The wicket looks good, a little dry, but it is a great wicket and the grass is also a little short. We have to have belief and confidence. It is about winning small battles. We are confident. There have been two changes, out of compulsion. Varun Chakravarthy got injured while taking a catch in the last match, and Narine is not playing. Powell and Saini are in the team.”
Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer confirmed that his team is playing with the same XI. “Not at all, I also had to bowl. I am happy with this decision. Our (Shreyas and Ponting) chemistry has blossomed since the Delhi Capitals days. He gives freedom to all the youngsters, and he himself is an inspiration. Our team is the same.”
