Big attack on Iran’s South Pars, Israel said – the country will become poor
The ongoing tension between Israel and Iran now seems to be reaching a very serious and dangerous stage. According to latest reports, on Monday Israel launched another major attack on Iran’s largest gas project ‘South Pars’. This is the same strategic energy center which was attacked earlier also in March. At that time, US President Donald Trump had indicated that Iran’s energy infrastructure would not be targeted further, but recent actions have raised questions on these claims.
South Pars is the backbone of Iran’s economy
This attack has given rise to many types of apprehensions. On one hand, the question is being raised whether America was aware of this attack or not, while on the other hand, speculations are also being made whether it is a part of some larger strategy. South Pars is considered the backbone of Iran’s economy, from where about 70 percent of the country’s natural gas is supplied. In such a situation, the attack on this base is being seen as a direct attempt to weaken Iran’s economic and energy capacity.
According to initial information, the refinery and pipeline network has suffered huge damage in this attack. This may affect Iran’s domestic electricity production, industries and revenue. Experts believe that it may take a long time to rebuild this infrastructure, which may worsen the country’s financial condition.
The impact of this development is not limited to Iran only. The fear of rise in gas and oil prices has increased globally. The South Pars area is very close to the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, which is an important route for international maritime trade. If tensions increase further here, petrol, diesel and cooking gas may become expensive in many countries including India.
What is Israel’s claim?
Israel claims that Iran uses its gas earnings to support organizations that are active against it. In such a situation, the aim of this attack is said to be to limit the economic resources of Iran. On the other hand, Iran has already warned that if its energy facilities are attacked again, it will give a strong response.
After this attack, the fear has now increased that a situation of direct military conflict may arise between the two countries, which may destabilize the entire Middle East region. Despite diplomatic efforts, this incident has weakened the prospects for peace talks and the situation appears to be deteriorating rapidly.
